Book Overview

In their bestselling book, The Ten Commandments of Dating, Ben Young and Samuel Adams showed singles how to date effectively. Now "The One" shows Christians who to date and how to negotiate the difficulties of choosing a soul mate. The biggest question on the minds of the 78 million singles in America is simply this: "How can I find the right one?" This book answers that question, giving entertaining yet practical advice for that seemingly...

The One: A Realistic Guide To Choosing Your Soul Mate

I purchased "The One: A realistic Guide to Choosing Your Soul Mate," for my signifcant other at her request. She had borrowed a copy from a friend and decided that she needed her own copy as what she was learning applied directly to things she could do to improve her life. Though I have not yet read the book myself, I have had enough passages reas to me to realize that this book has the power to truly influence and perhaps changes one's life for the better. My friend and I have both gone through divorces that have impacted us in many ways. We found each other and wish to build upon what we have discovered about ourselves and each other. This book provides some clear ways to rediscover a self that may be surpressed, that needs uplifting and inspiring. I would recommend it to anyone feeling a need to reconnect with self and others.

A great relationship book by great relationship authors

This is another gem of a dating/marriage book from Christian-relationship gurus Sam Adams and Ben Young. I read this book in 2003 and at that moment, was convinced to make a commitment follow its advice. ...And I'm proud to announce that it has paid off dearly as I've met a wonderful woman who hits all the right "zones" (as you'll read about in the book). We'll be getting married in 2008, and I have in no small part, the wisdom from "The One" to thank. If you read this book (and The Ten Commandments of Dating) and follow the advice found inside, you'll find yourself much better off in the world of relationships.

Very Good

I found this book to be both practical and grounded in Biblical truth. The fact of the matter is that the Bible does not advocate a specific method of spouse-hunting (there is not a single example of courtship anywhere in Scripture, it didn't even occur until the 1400's. The rule of Biblical times was arranged marriage, which obviously doesn't apply very easily to modern times). Before you kiss dating goodbye, I suggest reading this book (and The Bible, of course, as the ultimate authority).

A hands on book for Christian dating

This is a great follow up book to The 10 Commandments of Dating. As a Christian, what I appreciate about this book is its healthy balance between following the will of God in the dating world and accepting personal responsibility for who we end up with as a mate. There has to be more to finding a soul mate than "you'll just know." This book gives concrete points to see if you and your boyfriend/girlfriend are on the right track. I think the reason so many people may end up with broken relationships is that they get carried away by all of the emotion in the beginning of a relationship and then no longer use their brain on down the line. Once things get more involved and complicated - they tend to ignore things because they are "in love." The authors give a fresh approach with a solid biblical foundation in these crazy days of navigating through the dating world. I appreciate their honesty and reality when dealing with singles in today's society. The church often does not address "dating" and this book is a much needed resource.

If Only I had read this book a few years ago!

This book was full of great advice I wish I would have known years ago. Especially helpful was the Myths that we really do believe. It helped to realize my flawed thinking and how I had made poor decisions in the past even though I would consider myself fairly wise and responsible. I dont think I read the same book as the last reviewer. Actually, I dont think he/she read much or any of it at all. I am definitely passing this one on to all my single friends!
