this is an account of the trials and travels of the men who opperated various boats on the missouri river starting in the early 1800,s through to the decline of river travel as the railways took over in the 1890,s there is mention of a frontiersman by the name of john(liver eating)johnson any one who has seen the film jeremiah johnson with robert redford would guess the movie was based on this character,a well written and illustrated book.
