“Truman Nelson’s biography of John Brown is a refreshing and eloquent corrective to the common misconceptions about the character and actions of this extraordinary American hero.”—Howard ZinnOn... This description may be from another edition of this product.
John Brown, usually denounced as a "fanatic," a "madman," and a "terrorist," gets an honest and insightful treatment in this book--and it's a rippingly good yarn. Somehow a man who gave his life not only to end slavery, but for full equality between Blacks and whites, gets short-shrift whereas men such as Washington who took up the gun to defeat the British (and who was himself a slaveowner) are treated as national icons. I recommend this book.
