My first Neil Gaiman book - I see why all the hype is there for his books.

It was fantasy as I would imagined it to be, but he is very engaging and the “scary” or dark parts were not too bad for a child who graduated from the goosebumps series. A great entry book for this author in my opinion. - I don’t know, it would have given me some dreams as a kid, but I still would have read it. I loved his story about don’t forget the milk for humor though!

my favorite neil gaiman

both this and the graveyard book can have me sobbing through the entire thing. such a delicate and gorgeous story.

Love this book

I’m definitely going to re read this it was so good!

Excellent read

This was my first book by Neil Gaiman and I was pleasantly surprised. The story is packed into a relatively small book. The main character is easy to relate to even though he's a child. It makes you remember your childhood and root for the good guys. The style of writing reminds me of The Book of Lost Things by John Connelly. I'd recommend both to anyone wanting to get completely absorbed by a story!

Pleasantly Surprised

I expected to like this book, but I did not expect to like it as much as I did. I went in knowing nothing about what it was about, and that was probably for the best because it was one big adventure in a small book.

Another amazingly eclectic story from Neil Gaiman...

I wasn't sure where this story was going to take me and that's what I loved most! Neil Gaiman is a stellar storyteller! I was taken up by the first chapter and found myself thinking about the book throughout the day. It was incredibly original, scary at times, and forever magical! Definitely recommend!

Beautiful and thought provoking storytelling

This novel has been the best reading experience I've had this year. This is my first Neil Gaiman novel and I can't wait to get my hands on more of his work. Our lead character is a young boy whos character is written so well you get nostalgic for the times of being afraid of the dark. You easily get lost in the boys imagination, emotions and thoughts(especially his palette). You really grow to love all the characters in this novel, each in a different way of course. The Hempstocks are unique characters hidden under a veil of curiosity and wonder. There are fantasy elements that make you lose yourself and Gaiman illustrates them masterfully in your minds eye. This novel is a beautiful work of art that anyone who loves a little fantasy will truly enjoy.
