An ancient secret...A deadly conspiracy. For reader's of Raymond Khoury's The Last Templar, or the works of Dan Brown, this high-octane commercial thriller tells of a hunt for the lost prophecies of... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I have read all of Dan Brown's books as a matter of course, but have never really been into the whole 'metaphysical conspiracy theory' thing. I picked this book up on the advice of a colleague, and am pleased to say that, in my opinion, it outshines Brown's untamed style of writing. I was really impressed by this novel, which manages to maintain an intimate tone and analmost tongue-in-cheek tone throughout. Reading clearly knows his stuff, but he does not drown the reader in academic references to conspiracies and powerful Gods a la The Da Vinci Code. Instead he employs a wonderful cast of quirky characters in an absorbing and nuanced journey. It is so much more satirical and knowing than Dan Brown, but no less epic and exciting. An excellent read!
I predict a best-seller

I read a lot of books. On the train, in the bath, in bed, in waiting rooms. Wherever I am, I've usually got at least one book with me. With this in mind, consider that 'The Nostradamus Prophecies' was one of my favourite books. Fast paced with interesting characters, this blew the competition out of the water, all set to a gypsy-jazz soundtrack. Reading creates a fantastic sense of location, writes genuine relationships and inspires true fear. I've never met as sinister a bad guy as the one contained within these pages. I've given this book to all of my friends, who come from a range of backgrounds, and not one has had anything bad to say - they all loved it as much as me. If I could make one small adjustment I would have included a lot more about modern day gypsy culture, but maybe that will come with the next book. Needless to say, I'll have it on pre-order.

Mario Reading presents a fresh and original take on Nostradamus that takes the reader into unchartered territory. The missing prophecies provide an absorbing hook but do not over-burden and this provides space for the narrative to take us in new directions, which Reading does through his fascinating look at gypsy history. Add to this a cast of distinctive and funny characters and a shocking, thoroughly unexpected ending, the Nostradamus Prophecies was everything I was looking for. If fast-paced historical thrillers in the Dan Brown vein are your thing then this is definitely a recommended read. Gripping from beginning to end I read the whole thing in one fraught sitting.
