Wow, could not put it down

What would you do to save your unborn child. Emily is a single woman who sometimes has a job sometimes not and lives her life way past the point of no return. After collapsing on the street she is rushed to the hospital with heart failure and is kept there for weeks. Her nurse is a caring woman named Betsey who becomes her best friend and want to help her through getting clean. About this time she finds out she is pregnant and so Emily is determined to do anything to prevent the loss of her child. But, as in reality Emily slips when she gets worried, anxious or just plain wanting a drink. She is very close to bar owner Ted who we find out is not all he is cracked up to be. Someone wants Emily dead and the child with her. She must run and hide and when she runs someone sets her apartment up to look like she was killed and the body disposed of. A series of clues leads two detectives on the case plus Betsey has decided that she MUST find out what happened and joins in the search. Ending is quite surprising but with all of James's Books it is an easy read and moves quickly
