Great book for equipping and evangelizing the saints

In The Next Wave, David challenges youth pastors, senior pastors and parents to invest in the teens in their church so that they can in turn impact their peers in school and the work place with the gospel of Jesus Christ. He laments the untapped potential of teens in the church and shows how the mission field is right before us on a daily basis. If we were to mentor these younger believers properly, the harvest of lost souls would be plentiful. Through the mentoring process, our teens will be more prepared to evangelize their peers with the gospel. In addition to the mentor process, Wraight challenges us to pray for and with "the Next Wave." We must model for them the disciplines of a godly lifestyle. In a strange twist, we are to model Christian behavior to our teens so that they in turn can model it for their peers. Through all of this, we are to make apprentices of our children in the ways of evangelism. In so doing, we will release what he calls the "potential of the youth" and have a greater impact on the youth in our culture today. Through a concentrated effort of training the youth to evangelize and pray, Wraight almost guarantees the future of the church. Yes, Christ is ruler and God is sovereign over the church, but it is evident by recent trends (at least in SBC life) that college-aged students are leaving the church in droves. Could it be that that is because we, as the "older" Christians have not emphasized a mentoring/discipleship relationship with our kids? I applaud David Wraight for bringing this to the fore of our minds. With that being said, this book "works" given many church's age-graded approach to ministry. Because we have chosen to base our church ministry on the school system, we are forced to a peer-to-peer understanding of evangelism. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but as I stated earlier, the recent trends are alarming and I fear that this model is part of the reason. Nonetheless, this book is a great resource for youth pastors and, if applied properly, should lead to a much more evangelistic mindset with the youth in his ministry and a greater movement of God in the young people of your community.
