What a Gift!

I received this book as a gift for my 55th birthday. It's perfect! It looks at all facets of retirement - money, where to live, working after retiring, travel, health, volunteering, even the psychology of retirement (such as renegotiating roles with a spouse or significant other). It's all-inclusive, yet specific. I liked the way the authors talked about places to retire, and described both strengths and weaknesses (I have to disagree with the previous review about it being a pile of real estate brochures - one chapter deals with where to live within the US and one chapter deal with living outside of the US). The other eight chapters deal with other important topics relative to retirement. This book is the kind of gift that I'll use over the next several years.

Best of the Bunch!!

I recently attended a seminar about retirement given by the authors of The New Retirement, Jan Cullinane and Cathy Fitzgerald. I also purchased a copy of their book after their presentation. Having just finished the book, I'm happy to report that the book, as well as their talk was helpful, informative, interesting, and enjoyable. Their nice style (both in the book and speaking) combined humor with valuable insights - things I wasn't aware of (such as ingredients to a successful retirement - hint - it's not only about the money!). I liked the concepts of universal design, the worksheets, their specific recommendations about places to retire, and their A to Z list of what to do to reprogram your time. The New Retirement really does cover the Who, What, Where, When, and How of retirement. I picked up a few tax tips that I'll be able to implement, too. I've will retire in about three months, and have/am collecting as much info as I can about this time of life. The New Retirement is the best I've come across, and believe me, I've looked at virtually everything. I very, very highly recommend this book!

Retirement For Active Adults

The authors have made a remarkable study of all aspects of retirement. As a recently retired resident of an Active Adult community I found the book to be especially helpful in the areas of financial planning, travel, retirement options-as to lifestyles and areas of the country. The chapter on Health issues and the Checklists are invaluable. This is by far the best retirement guide I have seen--a must read!

This book IS the ultimate guide!

I just finished reading my neighbor's copy of The New Retirement: The Ultimate Guide to the Rest of Your Life, by Jan Cullinanae and Cathy Fitzgerald, and I had to share my enthusiasm about this book. I am also going to get my own copy! It is a great summary of all of the things we Baby Boomers should be thinking about as we approach retirement. The New Retirement helps the reader decide when and where to retire, whether continued employment may be necessary or desirable for financial or psychological reasons, and how to make the transition into a retirement lifestyle that is right for you. I'll recoup the cost of the book many times over by taking advantage of the ideas in the financial planning and tax chapters. The book is unique in that it really does address 'the rest of your life,' from retirement planning, to maximizing the retirement years, to preparing for the eventual sunset. The New Retirement opened my mind to the many paths I can take to spend the rest of my life in a fulfilling manner. The authors' conversational style and sense of humor make this an ENJOYABLE read. The wealth of fascinating facts, web site references, analyses of places to live, and practical advice make this a MUST read. Joyce Logan, Deer Park, Illinois

The New Retirement: A Holistic Approach!!!

Finally........the retirement book that I have been looking for....and I have been doing a lot of looking this summer.I hope to retire in about 7 years and I have yet to find a retirement book (until this one!) that is truly A-Z in its scope. This book hit the spot specifically because it delved into the psychological and readiness aspects of retirement as well as doing a great job on explaining the typical financial and locational aspects of retirement. The psychological opportunities and pitfalls of retirement are discussed and supported with recent and credible psychological studies. This book really makes you think clearly and test yourself before jumping into that standard question: "Do I have enough enough in my 401-K to retire?" Yes, this book puts retirement planning all together in an easy-to-read "one stop shop" approach. Its delivered in a fun manner with straightforward and understandable language. I strongly advise anyone planning retirement to get this book!
