The Navy: An Illustrated History

For those who appreciate the history of the United States, this book will inspire you and give a background into our heritage of naval history. Each section is organized by time period, and information is accompanied with historical photographs, illustrations and paintings from the respective era. This is a hardbound book with white simulated leather and the US Navy Seal on the front cover. The book is well done, and this would make a great gift for any current or prior member of the United States Navy or anyone who is deeply interested in the history of this wonderful country that we call home. Who knows? You may recognize someone that you know in this book (like I did, when I saw myself in it). Buy a piece of history to pass on to your loved ones, or give this book as a gift to honor his or her service to our great nation. VERDICT: Highly recommend.

Why are there ANY of these SUPERB iconic tomes available?

In brief: this is a MAGNIFICENTLY produced and illustrated history of a very popular American institution -- I can't believe they are available at all in the aftermarket, let alone so inexpensively. Fancy gilt plastic emblem on cover, heavy white faux leather bound boards, HUGE 14-1/2" x 10-1/2" size, 352 heavy white matte pages with heritage and background summary (traditions, museums) and index, great color and B & W pix throughout, Naval Historical Foundation Press -- what's more to ask? This is THE definitive coffee table gift tome (get a sturdy coffee table) for anyone in, retired from, or interested in the U.S. Navy.

A Beautiful Collector's Item

I purchased this as a gift for my father, a former naval officer, andhe was touched. The book cover looks stunning, very elegant. THe book itself is very large, but it should be, it wouldn't be the same if so much as a page was left out. The pictures are stunning. The book contains a thorough history of the U.S. Navy, and has many sidebar articles on interesting historical tidbits. I cannot say enough about the pictures. Many, many ships are represented, along with famous and not so famous battles, events, and people important to the U.S. Naval history. This is a great gift for any Navy afficionado.

The Dream Navy That I Have Found

This is the best historical book about the United States Navy that I have ever found. This book tells the story of the United States Navy from the formation of our country to what is foreseen in the 21st century in clear and simple English without any relevent inconsistancies or gaps. You'll never be bored reading this because for about every 50 words of informative text there is a picture to back it up or at least give you an idea what they're talking about and keeps you interested by giving you an image to view. The most interesting feature of all is the offical seal of the United States Navy that buldges out on the front of the leather hardcover with the feel of a real metal seal which brings this astonishing feeling of pride for our United States Navy. So whether you are a naval serviceman (or servicewoman), or an interested civilian, this book is as good as it gets for information or a display of pride for the US Navy that is worth every penny.

Pleasing to the Eyes

This book is well worth the price. A great gift for anyone in the Navy or retired from the Navy. I bought this book as a gift for my brother for graduating from Naval bootcamp and he was really impressed. The hardcover of this book is undescribeable.
