Linked to the radio programme Bookworm, this is a collection of comic poems, by authors such as Spike Milligan, Ogden Nash, Jonathan Swift and John Betjeman.
My students like this book! Our favorite is "I Saw a Jolly Hunter", by Charles Causley, and it describes how a very "jolly" hunter is walking in the very "jolly" sun, with his jolly "gun", sees a "jolly" hare, but because the jolly old safety catch was not on, and because the hunter turned the gun the wrong way, the hunter was hoist by his own petard, and the hare escaped. There are many other good poems in this book. The humor, as this example should show you, is English and not American and for this reason some American kids or their parents might find it full of secret liberal anti-gun messages.
