Wow! A world that needs to learn to sacrifice--

--and put me at the top of the list. Sacrifice is going to be the buzz word of this century, just watch. And this book is going to change my life; it is the stepping stone in a journey to grow up and get back to the good young girl I was. Yeah, I'm going backwards. After years of being told by women's lib "you first, your job second, kids LAST" and "you can't take care of others unless you take care of yourself FIRST" this book convinced me that was a lie. Many others have proved it and lived in robust health and enjoyed much more productive admirable lives than I - or the people who preached such selfishness. This is more than a book of wonder stories. This is a hugely well-thought-out investigation of those wonder stories put in the context of our modern American way of life. She makes so many good points I hardly know where to start sharing. Saintly Anna Maria Taigi started out a vain mother but became a mystic with healing abilities. Eating less and less desirable food, for example, she hoped to "balance the scales for all who go through life crying 'me first.'" She talks about the parish priest of the little-known town of Ars who slept on the floor, went without comforts, and ate very little to complete his 20-hour-day of helping people -- and was none the worse for the deprivation. He said, too, that when he went days without eating God granted him whatever he requested. Her stories are not limited to Catholics although the enormous documentation the church has maintained makes these selfless people easier to find. And perhaps the true Catholic way of the heart makes it easier to sacrifice. This book is giving me an elevated understanding of what it means to be a good person. It is available to everyone and we can start now. I think that Patricia's other books are actually easier to read - Apparitions of Modern Saints is a must - but that she herself was deeply moved comes through in this text. She leaves no stone unturned and no question unanswered for the doubting Thomas or the atheist.

The Mystical Body

I have always loved Ms. Treece books and I have them all. I love the way she writes. Its like she is talking to you. This book is great. The stories are about all the holy people i love.Ven. Therese Neumann, my all time favorite is here as is so many others. I gave it five stars. But mostly for the writing. However I do wish she had put pictures of the holy ones she was writing about. It was a little like well heres the story .But i dont have pictures of these people. As most are famous and well known i feel there would have many that could have been used. That being said i still think it a wonderful book... More please Ms. Treece. How about a book just about the Ven. Therese Neumann??????With Pictures !!!
