Ship = great, mountain = not so much

I love Enid Blyton's adventure series. I read it as a child in German and recently decided to purchase them all in English. I didn't like the Mountain of adventure much as a kid and I still do not. It is a bit too far fetched (3 stars). However, the Ship of adventure is great (5 stars). If you like these, I can recommend 1) The island, 2) the castle, 3) the valley, 4) the sea of adventure (listed in order of publication). One thing I did notice that was somewhat odd, is that the two boys in these adventures often boss the girls around, which everyone seems to find totally acceptable. These books were written after WWII. Things have changed I suppose. All in all a great book and remember that you get two books in one.

A review from a grandmother

I read these books, and many other Enid Blyton books when I lived in England as a child. Now I am sending them to my American grandchildren so they may enjoy them. I loved Enid Blyton's books, including the Adventure Series, and I think my grandchildren, who will receive these books for Christmas, will also.

Great stories for children

Enid Blyton was one of the premier writers of children's adventure stories. I read these same stories as a child over 50 years ago, and now I'm delighted to have found them to give to my granddaughter! They feature both boys and girls in action roles, and even though they are set in what is now our past, they remain among the best I can remember. Better than either the Hardy Boys series or the Nancy Drew series, because they aren't just who-done-it stories.

A mad scientist, , Greek treasure, plucky kids and a comical parrot!

This book combines two of the classic Enid Blyton adventures pulished just after WWII. Although little is said about the war, Jack and Lucy-Ann are orphans, while Philip and Diana have lost their father but not their mother, Mrs Mannering. In the Mountain of Adventure long suffering Mrs. Mannering takes the children on holiday in the Welsh mountains, certain that they couldn't possibly land in another dangerous adventure. But, Philip, Dinah, Lucy-Ann and Jack are soon investigating the mystery of a rumbling mountain and a mad genius bent on world domination. In the Ship of Adventure, the foursome stumble across treasure on holiday in Greece, and are quickly pursued by ruthless villains. The adventures are more than fifty years old but are far from dated. All the books in the series have been brought out with contemporary new covers. Kiki, who pertly chirped "God Save the King!" in 1949 now says, "God Save the Queen!" but I did not notice any other changes.
