Book Overview

Daniel, more than any other book in the Bible, gives an overview of prophecy and the times of the Gentiles. At no time in history is its thrilling message more necessary than at the present hour. Dr. Showers' commentary is clear, concise, logical, nontechnical, and thoroughly biblical. The total exposition, from chapter one to chapter twelve, is consistently premillennial and sheds tremendous light on other portions of the prophetic Word. CRITICAL Foundation for Understanding the End Times....

This book's title, though accurate, won't sell books, which is unfortunate since this is one book whose message needs to get out. In fact, after a general prophecy overview book, this is the single book that I most recommend for the general reader as foundational in order to understand the End Times and the stage-setting taking place before our eyes. The book of Revelation cannot be understood without understanding the Old Testament book of Daniel to which it alludes and fleshes out, and this book by master teacher and scholar Showers is the best commentary on Daniel for the general reader. The title is both a name of God used by the prophet Daniel as well as the theme of the book of Daniel--i.e., that God is sovereign, or "most high" over men, nations, and rulers, humbling and exalting whom He will (individuals, rulers, nations), in control of history, and even telling us in advance what will happen. This book is a verse-by-verse commentary on all of Daniel, a book that is about more than prophecy, though Daniel's chapters 2, 7, and 9 do focus on prophecy and are absolutely essential to understanding when the Messiah will come again, the geographic origins of the Antichrist, the upcoming 7-year covenant with Israel with its rebuilt Holy Place, the Man of Sin World Ruler, and more, including chapters 6-19 of Revelation, which are based on Daniel. I recommend this book to people wanting to understand the End Times but who are unaware that the Tribulation, the coming confederated superpower, and the "Antichrist" of Revelation all refer back to Daniel. Although Renald Showers is relatively unknown to popular audiences (he's not the type to toot his own horn), he's known, respected, and cited among dispensational theologians. If there are few reviews for this book, it's not because this book is some fly-by-night, it's just that Showers' writings are mostly known through his decades of work with The Friends of Israel Gospel Ministry. Doctrinally, Showers is top-notch, always precise, never going beyond the text into eisegesis. He writes from a "pre-trib, pre-mil" view, that the rapture happens before the Tribulation that in turn is before the Millenium. The Most High God, like Showers' other works, is known for doctrinal faithfulness, eschewing speculation and sensationalism, and adherence to a literal, historical-grammatical approach to interpretation. Some of his books (such as his masterpiece Maranatha) are heavy with indexes and endnotes, but not The Most High God, which keeps it simple, straightforward, and suitable for the beginner, yet it's still helpful for readers already familiar with Daniel. This book shows how scripture-to-scripture comparison, history, and context give insight into the symbolic prophetic images, such as the 10-headed beast. Showers does not get into alternative, comparative interpretations of Daniel, for that try Walvoord's Daniel: The Key to Prophetic Revelation. The Bible says that the book of Danie

Excellent resource

Excellent book. I would recommend any of Renald Shower's books to anyone who desires to get a better grasp of the Scripture. I have all of his books and use them quite frequently.

Excellent

One of the best general commentaries on Daniel from a dispensational/premillenial viewpoint.

Simple and Good Book on Daniel

I admire Mr. Shower's view of the Bible. He has done a great job summarizing the book. The material is not indepth however it goes into enough information that any body reading it would say that his material is a great tool. I sometimes have a hard time reccomending a book especially to new believers, but if there is a new believer interested in studying the basics of the contribution of Daniel, then this is a great read!

One Of The Finest Biblical Commentaries Available.

I cannot recommend this book highly enough. If all Biblical commentaries were written like this, I would obtain a copy in relation to each and every single book of the Bible. The author provides a clear, concise and non-technical Biblical teaching and exposition of the Book Of Daniel which covers vast areas of God's plan for human history, past, present and future. We owe it to ourselves to be aware of the teachings outlined in this book. They are crucial to our understanding of the times in which we live and the events that we are shortly to face. This book will be read and re-read time and time again.
