By reading this book I was able to understand and help my daughter through her trauma. Dr. Amanat makes a complicated disorder easy for the average person to understand and gives many examples of how to love someone through the difficult times.

Finally in The Miracle of Love, A spiritual approach to PTSD, the spiritual dimension is added. This added spiritual dimension, along with Dr. Amanat's inclusion of his own personal trauma, gives enormous hope to the reader. Whether you suffer from PTSD, have friends who do, look at the world and thing "soon we may all be suffering from PTSD," this book is a must. Globally, the world is in travail; individually one can feel as if stuck eternally in snarly traffic of frightening proportions. Dr. Amanat gives the concrete view, the technical side of PTST, and THEN takes these conditions to a much higher, spiritual level. He speaks of the alienation humankind suffers from separation from his/her soul/the ground of his or her being; he speaks of separation from nature; alienation which cannot be overcome by addictive behaviors, conformity or authoritarian behaviors. (Lord knows, people have tried). He offers the solution or a solution: the call to spirituality which he refers to as "an eternal summons to love others." "Spiritual people use limitations and suffering not to create enemies but as opportunities to help others"! Thus despair can be transformed into optimistic hope. There is so much in this book, such as "Beneath our passive surrender to love of God lies an incredible regenerative force that leads to a feeling of atonement and unity with others and with the universe. this unity becomes the antidote to alienation. Reliance on God ends the separation sickness, thus limiting the scope and reach of emotonal illness." (p 190)The text is clear; accessible, forthright, flows easily. It represents cognitive views, personal intimate views and finally the spiritual aspects of suffering. It is helpful as helpful on the level of Man's Search for Meaning by Victor Frankl. A debt of gratitude is owed to Dr. Amanat.
