As a lover of several of the classic comic strips (pogo above all, doonsbury, krazy kat, calvin and hobbes, peanuts, i could go on!), as well as many less prominent and/or more contemporary (and sometimes downright obscure) ones, i am sad that sam hurt's eyebeam hasn't gotten the circulation it deserves. The thing is, i think it rates up there with the best for wild, scintillating inventiveness *and* heart! It's incredibly rare to get both together, and it's that combination that can make comics worth reading, for me.I'm hoping that a groundswell of interest will spur republishing of the eyebeam books. (Check the reviews of his books - from the several i saw, the reviews all glow without reservation!) Unfortunately, (sam) hurt only got syndication for a kiddie character out of eyebeam, "peaches, mistress of the universe", for what i think are the wrong reasons - kiddie appeal - thereby (i think) hurting, not helping, attention for his work. Sigh.I'm back at the site because an out-of-print book search turned up "The Mind's Eyebeam" - i'm hoping requests and reviews like mine will draw attention to eyebeam, and maybe, somehow, eke it back into circulation. I'd love that!
Just can't say I don't know!
