The author is a New Zealander and life time member of the Anglican Communion, positioned within the conservative evangelical spectrum of the fellowship. Familiar with the diversity of affections and views that defines the institution, he appreciates its complexities yet remains disturbed that endowed with such a vast historical and intellectual reservoir of theological and philosophical scholarship, it's leadership has left its parishioners in an ocean of uncertainty with respect to the debate over ordination and marriage of same sex gender in our community of faith. Most people in the absence of a unified position, acquiesce to the theological inclinations and disposition of their local leaders. When agreement cannot be reached on revelation, the ballot box becomes the arbiter of truth.What follows represents the efforts of an ordinary parishioner in the spirit of the Men of Issachar, dissatisfied with and consequently reluctant to rely upon the diverse opinions expressed by others, using the facilities, faculties and time at his disposal, to come to terms with one of the demanding and divisive social pressure points of his generation.
