The Filipino is the first feminist nation, before the word feminist was invented. The Matriarchs of Cavite is a book all Filipinas can be proud of, it's an autobiographical novel faithful to historical events and cultural character of the Filipina in general and the Cavite a in particular. After 300 years under Spain, the first to draw blood from the colonizer were the people of Cavite. Not all those revolutionaries were men, a good number of them were Cavite as, the women of Cavite. Three matriarchs, muddled through the American occupation and Japanese occupation during WWII by sheer wit and diplomacy. They came out of foreign domination stronger than the men. By the time peace and independence was reached, it was too late to break their spirit back into domestication. They have learned to fight for her country, take sole responsibility for her family and earn money. All while retaining the balance between feminine charm and subtle assertiveness that took a Women's Liberation Movement, a century later, to teach the women of other nations. The Cavite a earned a reputation for feistiness. They are dedicated to the family, hardworking and shrewd business managers. They are assertive in any situation and adapts to the most difficult condition without losing composure. Thus, they make perfect matriarchs.
