You MUST Read This Book

Our Bible Study teacher, Linda Mainard (the first reviewer), told me about Amy Florian and her book, The Mass: An Invitation to Enjoy It. Heck, Linda even loaned me a copy. I found the book to be a wonderful guide to the Holy Mass. Beyond that, the explainations were so clear that even this Baby Catholic could totally understand the concepts. The book goes well beyond the Mass, with excellent coverage of liturgical seasons, the importance of the Christian community and the Holy Eucharist, plus lots more. Her essay on Lent is something that every Christian, and absolutely every Catholic, should read and put to use. Amy Florian visited our church, Christ the King Catholic Church in Milwaukie, Oregon, a couple of weeks after I read her book. She did a talk on forgiveness that was excellent. Even better, my wife, Karen and I got to meet Amy and talk with her for an extended period. The next day, Amy Florian lead a woman's retreat at a local retreat house. Karen, Linda and our friend, Joyce, plus many ladies from our parish attended the retreat. They all came back having been refreshed and renewed. I wrote for magazines for about twenty years and I read a great deal. Many times, I find that I would have written things differently or have used different words than the author. Not so with Amy Florian and her meaningful book, The Mass: An Invitation to Enjoy It. This is a wonderfully-written book that keeps your interest on every page. The book is short and compact, but don't let that fool you; the book is also profound beyond its size. Without a doubt, this book will extend the spiritual horizons of any Christian. I give the book the highest possible recommendation. Steve Timm

Joyful Greetings

How does a little book of 95 pages cover so beautifully 2000 years of celebration? I have gone to Mass all of my life, but reading Amy's book refreshed, renewed and brought rejoicing to how I look at the Mass now. Amy was a guest speaker and gave a women's retreat at our parish. She is gifted in so many ways but her greatest gift is her wisdom in seeing, feeling, smelling, hearing and being part of the cord of our Catholic faith; The Mass. Reading her book truly is an Invitation to enjoy The Mass even greater.
