Beginning with The Return of Hastur, which Derleth completed posthumously from H.P. Lovecraft's notes, these stories masterfully expand the horrific cycle of the Cthulhu mythos and its monstrous pantheon.
The best of the best when it comes to lovecraft inspired novels.

Lovecraftian horror, or cosmic horror in general is a very hard feild of writing. In my opinion lovecraft has made the best stories of horror through his "Cthulhu mythos". These series of stories are used to build an idea of this world, a world affected to things far beyond comprehension, for better or for worse. Of all the writers I've seen who atempt to write mythos adjacent stories August Derleth exels where others fail. The feeling of mystery, the slow realization to the horrific conclusion. August Derleth, like Lovecraft uses a mastery of the english language to make the reader feel more part of the story. This read has many stories that rather than rewrite the muthos, add to it. Great read if a big lovecraft fan.
