Mintz does a fantastic job of covering many aspects of the martial arts film genre. Included are the philosophies behind the films, the common characteristics, methods employed by different directors, and even the importance of camera angles in certain movies. What prevents this book from receiving its fifth star is the lack of elaboration or discussion of the effects of certain details mentioned though the reader could most likely draw these inferences for himself.
