Terrific Read from Reed

This book transported me to the backside of the track and gave me the full horse racing experience. I knew nothing of it before this book. I just wanted to read the book for the mystery. Reed delivers a winning story for the reader. The ending is great; you won't be disappointed.

Win-place-show

Philip Reed has done it again! After blowing the doors off the used car business with everyman's superhero, Harold Dodge, Philip Reed has created another masterpiece that exposes horse racing for what it really is. Saddle up and get ready for a gritty, gut renching ride with a true master. THE MARQUIS de FRAUD definitely delivers! A sure bet with a tremendous return from a writer destined for the winner's circle!

A Thoroughbred of a Tale

Though I was a complete neophyte to the world of thoroughbred horse racing before reading this book, Philip Reed's wonderfully descriptive, suspenseful tale immediately grabbed me and kept me hooked. This is a richly detailed, atmospheric "ride" with one of the more uniquely sinister villains -- Malcolm Marquis Ravling -- I have encountered in quite some time. Equally notable are the good guys -- trainer Cliff Dante and his pal, Dan Van Berg, who kept this reader engaged, not because of any tendency towards overblown, super-heroics, but because they are "regular Joes" who are only looking to get what they deserve -- a well-earned "big casino" on their favorite horse. Well-paced with flavorful dialogue and memorable characters (particularly the bone-chilling Malcolm), this novel is highly recommended.

Get on this racehorse!

I don't read a lot of books but the cover of The Marquis de Fraud caught my eye. Right away I knew I was on a racehorce. This book moves! A lot of books have too much description, too little tension. This book is like being at the races. Plus, there are side trips to thoroughbred auctions and the backside of the track where various bad guys are working scams. But the best part comes halfway through -- the two main characters go to England chasing their stolen horse. From there on in, you can't stop reading. Do yourself a favor and be one of the first to read a book everyone will be talking about.

What a ride!!!

The Marquis de Fraud takes you on a wild journey where finance meets thoroughbred racing meets conman meets murder. Two regular guys are plunged into this thriller when a con man steals their horse and everything seems to get worse from there. At their lowest point they make a pact to get even and the fun begins. Mr. Reed captures the colorful world of horse racing and mixes it with the seedy world of conmen and greedy bad guys. The characters are exceptional and the bad guy is really bad. The book is a page turner with a great ending twist.
