Volume 2 of a classic that stands the test of years! This series was originally published in 1930 by Pacific Press Publishing Association and I'm glad to see they are still in-print. My grandmother read these to me and I always remembered them with joy. My son enjoys this series, too. That's good because I am more enthusiastic about reading to him if the book doesn't bore me to death. The stories are about animals and written from the animal's viewpoint. The Mallards are the main attraction in this book. Normally, that would mean this was the next year from the Bluebirds. Nope. From what I can understand of the story, THE BLUEBIRDS & THEIR NEIGHBORS, THE MALLARDS & THEIR NEIGHBORS, and PATTYTAIL THE BEAVER & HIS NEIGHBROS, all happen during the same summer. This means that the Bluebirds make an occasional appearance in this book, along with other wild creatures. The stories are enjoyable and insert fun, educational details about animal behavior and characteristics. This is a Christian book that believes that God created the world. Religion is not the point of the book, just the underpining of the storyteller's worldview. It's a great book.
