Book Overview

A twisty psychological thriller from Natasha Preston, author of the #1 New York Times bestseller author of THE CELLAR

It's a fight for survival in a building designed to ensure that no one makes it out alive.

In Piper's hometown, teenagers keep disappearing, and everyone assumes they're just a bunch of runaways. But when yet another person vanishes, Piper and her best friend Hazel suspect something more sinister is...

Preston is becoming lazier in every way

As with all her others, so much potential and such little follow through. The Cellar was incredible and it's been downhill since. Lazy writing, flat characters, minimal foundation causing confusion, repetition of tropes/conflicts/outright quotes, and no authenticity to the characters or their motives. They're all teenagers who think/speak exactly the same, and sound nothing like teens. They sound outright thru & thru like therapists. Preston betrays her protagonist's entire character, unravels her entire plot, and does a complete 180 in the last 30 pages. So lazy and unsatisfying. The work also has severe editing issues, conflicts in the timeline, and in more than one scene entire characters are forgotten about. In one of the final scenes, the antagonist forgets to include two main characters in the dialogue, so four paragraphs later Preston brings them up in setting description and abruptly ends their story. Feels like she put a few weeks into the set up and half heartedly wrote the rest without giving it more than one revision.

Didn’t think I would like it but

This ended up being a really good book. I felt it got a little repetitive in the middle which was frustrating. Even with that I found myself still thinking of this book after I read it. Finished in 2 days. I will now be buying her other books!

I was so drawn in from the very first chapter

Great book! I was so drawn in from the very first chapter and finished this book in two days! I just ordered The Cellar and The Cabin and hope the others by this author are as gripping! As stated in one of the other reviews, there are a couple of typo's in this book, however, the author writes with such detail that you are easily able to picture and imagine each scenario as it is happening. Definitely a thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I am hoping that a second book follows, maybe with a little case of Stockholm syndrome! I definitely recommend this book!

Love her work!

I am another big fan of Natasha’s work. Other than the typos, I absolutely love every book I’ve ready thus far. ❤️ I can’t wait to have all of her books in my collection! Ordering this book today!
