GREAT story about hardship and strength, Beautiful illustrations

This is a beautiful story with a lot of message about inner strength, resourcefulness, overcoming despair, finding your gifts, helping others. The illustrations are beautiful as well. It is a story that young children will learn about empathy from, and the illustrations are very helpful in making the story more dramatic. You really feel for the lost sailor. He gets stranded on a desert island after a storm and shipwreck and has to live by himself for many years. He sometimes loses hope, but also finds ways to overcome those feelings. Its a great story. I collect children's illustrated books and I found this book very beautiful. I highly recommend this story to read to your children.
