Wish I could get copies of this book!!!!!

This is one of the most charming children's books I have ever read. A child loses her beloved doll and comes in distress to her father. He is with a business client/friend who happens to be a writer about to embark on a world cruise. Older children reading the story will guess the real author of the series of postcards that arrives for the child from her lost doll. Each new postcard describes an adventure in an exotic and faraway place, and the doll uses pictures instead of words in her messages so that non-readers can help "read" the messages from the doll. The doll is unable to curb her wanderlust and convinces her former owner that although she loves her, she is unable to return and the last communication is a package with a new doll for her to care for (a friend her old doll made while travelling). The pictures are beautiful, the messages whimsical enough to bring to life a doll. The author in the story was supposed to have been Kafka, and as I remember it, the story is based on truth. This book is definitely a treasured keepsake.
