The Longing (The Courtship of Nellie Fisher, Book 3)

Beverly Lewis continues to produce wonderful stories. The Courtship of Nellie Fisher series was excellent as always.

Great Final book

Longing is a great ending to a really good series. Lewis has come through again. My only wish is that the ending to the book would be as thorough as the rest of the series. It's almost as if the final pages are cut apart and pasted back together. We enjoy endings!!

The Longing

I Love this book? I wish they would continue on this serious as Nellie continues on her marriage.

Longing for "The Longing"

Like many Beverly Lewis fans, I spent months "longing" for the ending to her newest series, "The Courtship of Nellie Fisher." The final book, "The Longing," does not disappoint. Although most of the conflicts developed in the first two books come to predictable resolutions, it's the journey Bev takes us on that keeps the reader turning the pages. As in all her books, the characters become living, breathing people that the reader either falls in love with, doesn't trust, or some times doesn't like. We sit at the bedside of dying family members, join quilting bees, listen in on private conversations and share secret thoughts of lovers. Predictable? Yes. But the journey Bev takes us on is never predictable. Even if I can guess the final destination, I'm always ready for the next Beverly Lewis journey. Can't wait for her next book. J.L. MORE THAN JUST A TALE OF PENNSYLVANIA FARMS AND AMISH FOLK

Beverly Lewis packs much more than a romantic Amish story into this book #3 of her "Courtship of Nellie Fisher" series called "The Longing." For sure and for certain! Yes there is Beverly's delightful way of expressing the wants, lives, emotions, and events of the Amish community. It is a peaceful existence compared to most of our lives, except for that nasty mule kick that Caleb's father takes to the head. Will it change the divisions in the local Amish church community? Even in the slower paced, rural life of the Amish, there is heartache, lost love, disagreement, and...well, Beverly Lewis never disappoints "Englischer" readers like myself. It's another "wunnerbaar-gut" tale by the Lancaster Story Lady. FIVE STARS, for sure and for certain, because this book not only gives a delightful story of young & older Amish adults, but also has drawn a nice historical picture explaining the differences between the opposing sects of the Amish. What makes Mennonite, Beachy Meeting, New Order, and Old Order different? All are conservative and extremely religious, but some more than others. Bev brings the 1966 New Order Amish beginnings to light through fiction fun. "Jah, the split was about saving grace," the book explains...but then you need to read it. "The Longing" can also serve as a great stand-alone book. If you are giving this author a first try, buy this one and enjoy it, jah! Then, you'll likely have to back your buggy and buy the first two as well. No doubt, you'll find "The Longing" wonderful-good too. This book offers a fantastic look at the differences of basic faith in God and Christianity for the different groups of Amish included in the Lancaster County community of Pennsylvania. Having lived my own life near another large Amish community, in Indiana, I enjoyed the depth of the spiritual look at the Amish along side the romantic spirit of the youth. The author's own Christian heart pours throughout her book. If a family genealogy chart for the Fisher and Yoder Amish families had been included at the beginning of the book, I would have given it the 6th star. Mrs. Lewis: write another, return to Berne, IN, and I'll buy your lunch. Thanks for sharing your gift.
