"A literary miracle. Even more powerful and epic in scope than Books of Rachel, The Lives of Rachel told with passion, evocative detail and love." --Cynthia Freeman This description may be from another edition of this product.
Published after its best-selling predecessor, "The Books of Rachel," this sequel - "The Lives of Rachel" - actually takes place during an earlier time period. Like the prior book of author Joel Gross, this one is also divided into five parts, each one a depiction of the life of a particular Rachel, born of an ancient Jewish family. Part One takes place in Judea, 168 B.C., Part Two, in Rome, 63 B.C., Part Three, in London, 488 B.C. Part Four is set in the Byzantium empire during the year 756, and Part Five takes place in Mainz during the year 1096. Each Rachel is unique with a different story to share, yet similar in her nobility, strength, spirit of conviction, courage, beauty and in being either gifted in healing or in the possession of second sight. Although the stories are each fiction, it would seem they were recorded from truthful history, so precise are the immaculate details saturating each. The reader of either book will be transported to a different place and era, surely learning something of that history along the way. This book and "The Books of Rachel" are both equal favorites of mine. In addition to the intriguing stories, the writing is beautifully superb, flowing perfection.
