Help for People Stymied by Blank Page

I've read the book and done several of the exercises. They're excellent for helping you get past the "What do I do with a blank page" feeling. Her concept is that EVERYONE has a story to tell, but most of us don't know how. Probably true on both counts. I highly recommend this book. Also would be good for giving to grandparents, parents and so forth so you can get their stories while they're still around to tell them.

Write 'em, cowgirl!

What a find! This book is for any and all writers or writers-to-be! Breezily written. easily read, The Little Red Writing Book will help anyone get started writing a memoir or a memory... one story at a time. It will also inspire you to get those stories from your parents and grandparents... before the precious tales are gone or forgotten. Hewitt is a hoot; she has a great sense of humor, and a better sense of what keeps writers writing (or keeps them FROM writing). Be sure to do the exercises -- they really work! I was amazed at the outcome -- and I'm hooked on Hewitt! I'll be sure to use her "Walking San Diego" book next time I'm in her neighborhood.

Must have for grandparents!

Our son bought a copy for his grandmother to chronicle the family for posterity. Grandma liked it so much, she decided that it would be her Christmas gift to all of us. We can't wait! Looking over the book, it was just what was needed to motivate her to get the story told. She just couldn't get all the pieces together, but now she has the tools to do it.If you haven't got a copy for your parents, get this book.

Makes My Top 10

This book is a "must have" for me. I own over two dozen "how to" writing books but when I get stuck or need inspiration, I grab my copy of "The Little Red Writing Book" Similar to Natalie Goldberg's "Writing Down the Bones" and Joel Saltzman's "If You Can Talk You Can Write", just easier, quicker, and more to the point! Thanks Ms Hewitt! I recommend this book highly!
