NOT a typical picture book-- a complex, dark, beautifully illustrated "Brothers Grimm"- style fable

This is NOT a typical children's picture book. Instead, it is a wordy old-fashioned fable or fairy tale, complete with strange magic, improbable events, menace, very human mistakes made by children, and important life lessons learned. Really interesting and unique, with an old-fashioned feel that is rarely found in modern children's books. Carefully read the product description before purchasing, so that you know what you are buying. This is not typical bedtime fare. The illustrations of this book are astonishingly beautiful-- amazing. Overall this book is recommended, just make sure it is a match for your needs.

Seriously weird, but worth it!

The plot reads like an 18th Century Hunter S. Thompson story - black chickens that turn into men, fairies under the floorboards, old women who appear for no reason, magical corn - but all in all, it's a BLAST!
