This is my favorite children's book. The illustrations are wonderfully cheerful. The message in the book is one that is not lost on even the smallest child - the lesson of friendship even when language is a barrier. Both my children ages 6 and 10 have always loved this book. I'd love to frame some of the pictures they are so beautiful. But the message is one we should instill upon all our children. To help those in need, to enjoy what others have to offer us, to see the beauty in the world and even when we can't understand each other to be able to appreciate each other. I highly recommend this book for everyone. It makes a great gift too.
Kindergartners give it 2 thumbs up

As a kindergarten teacher, I have found several fun and practical uses for this enchanting, colorful story. Students learn about being friends, despite the vast differences between the bird and the lion. They learn about colors and where they are found in nature. Children love to guess what color the lion's tail will be next and to speculate on why it keeps changing colors. They love to paint their own pictures of the lion with his colorful tail. Each page is bright, vibrant and delightful. The Lion And the Little Red Bird has been a classroom favorite that my students have begged to hear again and again.
A gorgeous picture book

The illustrations in this delightful picture book are lovely. My daughter and I are just as enchanted with the artwork as the little red bird was with the lion's colorful tail. A sweet story accompanies the beautiful collages.
Don't raise kids without it.

Beautiful story. Beautiful pictures. It's about art and colors and making friends. Buy it for any two-year-old who doesn't already own it. You can reread and reread this book with pleasure, which is the #1 most important feature for any read-aloud book.
A beautifully illustrated tale about friendship

My daughters, ages 5 and 4, are enchanted by this book. They like to pore over the cheery, colorful illustrations and predict what color the lion's tail is going to be next. It makes them (and me) happy to see the lion and the little bird become such fast friends despite their differences--in size, in language, etc. This book is along the same lines as the author's wonderful "Paper Princess," but for a younger audience.
