This book is a good review for the NAB. It is written by one of the item writers for the NAB exam. There is also a book that corresponds with this review book, where most of the questions come from. I give the book 4 stars because the typos are annoying, however, the questions will show up on the NAB, possibly in different wording. That is why it is important to understand what the questions mean, and not memorize them. I am ending my 4 year program of long term healthcare administration. You have to read the books that go along with the review questions to know what the questions mean. You can not memorize the answers to the questions in the book and expect to pass the NAB. Memorization is not understanding of concepts, and state and federal laws. Overall the book is useful because it is written by one of the NAB question writers. By the way, there is a new edition that would be better.

Interesting....

Ok, so you want the real scoop, here it is! In general, this test book, along with Allen's NHA book, is decent study material (just get over the typos and you'll be ok). Why folks complain is because this book, like many others, are filled with opinions, and vague generalities. But here is how you have to study. You buy this book, with the study guide. You buy or borrow the NAB book, and the book by Haacker. You read all three books, and do the study questions... no matter how dumb you think they are. Read Read and Read some more... there is no getting out of studying hard! If it were easy everyone would become an Administrator, right? When you study the test questions I find it is helpful to make up new questions yourself, and ask yourself "why", why is the answer what it is? This is the key to REAL LEARNING. I also recommend you not get bogged down on every single definition in the books, but you must at least get a grasp on what everything means -- this way you should have no surprises. I hope you read, study, do the questions and make up new ones along the way. Also, call fellow students in your core of knowledge corse to get input. And please, we are all different, so don't go by one person's saying the test is easy (it's not), and don't go by those who flunk, for they did not read read read! Like I say, do your homework and get an excellent grasp on "WHY" "HOW" "WHEN" -- YOU CAN NEVER ASK YOURSELF ENOUGH QUESTIONS! Bottom line, if you study like this YOU WILL PASS! I passed both exams the first go round! I took the NAB test first, then 22 days later I took the State tests. NEVER EVER TAKE BOTH EXAMS ON THE SAME DAY -- YOU WILL BE SORRY IF YOU DO! I hope this info helps you. I have great faith in the Lord, so there is nothing I cannot pass on the first attempt, I hope the same holds true for you! Good luck, I will let you go now, you should be reading right now, lol. Gary from Ohio.

Much better than the green text book

A valuable study guide indeed. I passed the NAB exam a few weeks ago....and this book was a huge help.......a wise investment. Also, for what it's worth.......I had a'lot of experience in LTC (Assistant Activity Director, etc.)....I was also a State Nursing Home surveyor for 4.5 years before starting my AIT........listen up: the NAB is the hardest exam I've ever taken in my entire life! It's the kind of test that'll bring you to tears......trust me on this......study like you've never studied before in your life!!

Helpful with AIT Program

I bought this to help me study for the Nursing Home Administrator's Exam and have found it quite helpful. It has been useful in clarifying which departments I still need more detailed work in, and what will be needed to pass the test. I would recommend it to supplement your AIT program
