A spy story!

The Liberty Bride is a fascinating book about the War of 1812, and a heroine who saved the nation by pretending to be someone she wasn’t. I couldn’t help but love Emeline, who was courageous, and slightly stubborn, and always managing to get herself into improper situations.

Excellent historical fiction

The Liberty Bride by MaryLu Tyndall is another in the fabulous Daughters of the Mayflower series. This historical fiction series follows a family tree linked by the daughters across American history from the landing of the Mayflower through the events of World War II. In the Liberty Bride readers are introduced to Emeline, a young woman returning from England to America during the War of 1812. The ship she is on is taken by the British and the story begins and what a delightful story it is. There is action, intrigue, and romance enough to keep the pages turning quickly. The characters are vibrantly strong and believable--artists, adventurers, rebels, spies, loyal Americans and loyal Brits, birthing mothers and dying fathers. The history of the War of 1812 is a great story in and of itself and seeing it through these fictional characters is fantastic. Throughout the story, the author has woven a thread of faith in God the Father and what it means--it is a gift and no matter how much good you do, you cannot earn His favor. I cannot wait to read the next book in this fantastic historical romance series. I received a complimentary copy of the book from Barbour Publishing and was not required to write a review. The opinions are my own.

I didn't plan on being a spy.

Since Emeline Baratt's mother died, when she was small, it was she who cooked and cleaned for her whole family, consisting of her father and brothers. Her father was in the shipping business and owned several ships. He decided that Emeline needed to go to her great aunt in England and learn how to be a lady. Emeline had also learned some doctoring skills, from her uncle. But, when Emeline arrived in England, she found her aunt sickly and she was needed all over again. She didn't mind, her aunt was a nice lady. When her aunt died, Emeline's father wanted her to board one of his ships, and come home. Just so happened that it was the War of 1812 and it wasn't safe for an American to be in England. When the American ship was captured by an English ship, Emeline had to think and act quickly, another lady from her father's ship convinced her to say she was English, so she'd be treated better by the captain and crew. The captain of the English ship heard that Emeline was a healer, he set her up in the ship's infirmary, so she could take care of his injured or sick crew members and any of the Americans. First Lieutenant Owen Masters is extra nice to Emeline at times and she begins to have feelings for him, but knows that they could never marry, because she is American and Owen is a British officer. Follow along and see where their story goes. Very good book. I received a copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.
