A cold day gives way to warm surprises in this joyful story of sisters that bridges generations and gives voice to the magical bond of sisterhood. Full color. This description may be from another edition of this product.
This is one of the most beautifully illustrated books I have ever seen. I love the gorgeous illustrative techniques in the book- the combination of drawing/paint and collage of photos of actual fabrics for the characters' clothes, the real photo of stamp used in the picture frame, etc. The book is full of girl characters who are active: scooping, piling, dumping, mounding, buying oatmeal, using imagination. Two spunky elderly ladies who travel far to celebrate their sister's birthday. Beautiful interaction between generations, and nice message about community.
Delightful juxtaposition of youth and aging

Andrea Cheng does a delightful job of taking a topic that is sometimes "scary" for children--that of the elderly. She shows the world from two points of view and then bridges those worlds in a touching, gentle way. Just when you think this might have a pitiful ending, there's a fun twist that leaves the reader deeply satisfied. A wonderful read that any children with an aging neighbor, relative, or grandparent will want to read again and again.
