The Legend of Korra – Ruins of the Empire Part Two (Korra and Kuvira Must Save Team Avatar)

The Legend of Korra – Ruins of the Empire Part Two starts with Asami addressing Korra about Su’s dislike of bringing Kuvira to Zaofu for her protection. While King Wu saddles Naga, Korra and Asami kiss, saying their goodbyes, for now. Korra hops on Naga, and they depart for the swamp. Unfortunately, some of Commander Guan’s soldiers are spying on Team Avatar. With the Avatar away, they decide to make their move. Everyone boards the Future Industries airship, and Asami commands her pilot to liftoff. Kuvira quizzes Asami if she will release her from the pod, and Asami refuses to allow her to roam freely aboard her vessel. When they encounter engine trouble, Asami finds it weird, and Kuvira is suspicious. Kuvira suggests that Korra’s friends release her. Mako questions why and receives his answer once the Earth Empire military crashes through the windows. Team Avatar fights them off to the best of their abilities. I’m pleased to see Mako’s left arm can firebender again. Kuvira requests that Asami let her out of her confinement to help them. Asami declines her aid and gets captured. Mako and Bolin suffer the same fate. Asami praises Kuvira for planning her escape perfectly, but Kuvira had no part in this—Commander Guan did. Meanwhile, Korra, King Wu, and Naga traverse the swamp. Korra advises King Wu to keep close to Naga and her. They begin their search for Toph by tapping into the roots’ energy. Nature once again calls for King Wu. It’s hilarious how King Wu requires privacy from Naga. After King Wu handles his business, he notices Korra and Naga have disappeared. Former Earth Queen Hou-Ting, King Wu’s Aunt, criticizes him for not leading the Earth Kingdom properly, being a weak king, and giving power to other individuals. King Wu is wounded by her accusations but argues that he is trying to give freedom to his people. Korra interrupts his vision, asking if he’s okay. King Wu informs Korra about his hallucinations on the route to Toph’s cave. King Wu vows never to pee in the swamp again. At Dr. Sheng’s lab, Commander Guan speaks with Kuvira, inquiring if Kuvira is returning to serve the Earth Empire or if she’ll continue being pals with the Avatar. Kuvira refuses to serve the Avatar or Commander Guan. He responds by revealing Asami, Mako, and Bolin are constrained to chairs, masks, and brain-altering helmets. Kuvira demands their release at once. However, Commander Guan avoids Kuvira’s order and reintroduces her to Dr. Sheng. Dr. Sheng worked closely with Kuvira’s ex-fiancé, Bataar Jr. until Kuvira made him her second in command. With inspiration from the Dai Li agents, Dr. Sheng developed technology to brainwash individuals and make them absolutely loyal. She planned to show the machinery to Kuvira, but Kuvira surrendered before she had the chance. Kuvira states that she would have rejected the brutal methods and shut the program down. Dr. Sheng mentions that, at one point, Kuvira wanted results no matter the costs. Kuvira acknowledges her errors and pleads with Commander Guan not to indoctrinate Asami, Mako, and Bolin. Commander Guan orders Dr. Sheng to activate the machine. Kuvira and I reacted similarly by shouting, “No!” I guess Kuvira can change for the better. Korra, King Wu, and Naga discover Toph’s cave in the swamp. Korra assures King Wu that she sensed Toph here. King Wu nearly pees his pants the moment he finds Toph camouflaging herself in the side of the tunnel. Korra is pleased that she hasn’t lost her touch, and Toph curses her Avatar abilities. Toph still has it with the nicknames. What she calls King Wu is hysterical. Toph clarifies her opinion about the monarchy and inquires why Korra is here. Korra and King Wu discuss how Kuvira ceded, but Commander Guan didn’t. Sadly, Dr. Sheng’s experiment succeeded in turning Asami, Mako, and Bolin against Korra. Commander Guan instructs them to force Kuvira to the chair. Whilst she has a chance, Kuvira fights her way out, metalbending the wall on top of Commander Guan and
