The Legend of Korra – Ruins of the Empire Part Three (Kuvira Shows Her True Colors!)

The Legend of Korra – Ruins of the Empire Part Three occurs in Zaofu, where everyone departs Su’s airship. Opal needs medical attention due to Bolin’s attack. Wing and Wei assist her inside. Korra pushes Asami’s pod whilst Toph and Pabu ride Naga. Kuvira is resistant to reuniting alongside Bataar Jr. until Su reminds her she must face him eventually. Su provides Asami and Kuvira quarters. Asami snaps at Korra, yet Korra promises to fix everything. Bataar Jr. visits Kuvira outside Asami’s dorm, unfolding that he never thought he would see her again. Kuvira apologizes, but Bataar Jr. doesn’t wish to hear what she has to say. He admits he loved her. He would never have used spirit energy to destroy her if their positions were switched. He stares into Kuvira’s eyes, observing she’s the same. She asks for his aid, but he slams the door in her face. There is friction between Kuvira and the Beifong family. I guess that Kuvira and Bataar Jr. will never reconcile their shattered relationship. After Kuvira sets foot in her room, Korra knocks on Bataar Jr.’s door, requesting his help. With the future of the Earth Kingdom on the line, Bataar Jr. opens his door to the Avatar. In Gaoling’s City Hall, Mayor Rhee’s work is interrupted by a brainwashed King Wu, who declares the election should be moved up to today. Mayor Rhee disbelieves that’s enough time to inform the voters. However, they are already outside the building. King Wu is infuriated when Mayor Rhee asks if they can give it more time. Mayor Rhee quickly agrees to do what King Wu demands. In Zaofu, Korra, Toph, Su, Opal, Kuvira, Bataar Sr., Huan, Wing, and Wei are sitting down to eat a meal. Korra discloses Bataar Jr.’s agreement to assist them because he feels guilty for what happened with the Earth Empire. Opal, still not over what Kuvira has done to her family, mutters a snarky comment at Kuvira. The Beifongs discuss whether they should launch an attack or wait for the voting to proceed. Su settles for the latter. Toph reminds Su that there is no fair election, not with half of Gaoling’s citizens indoctrinated. Kuvira compliments Commander Guan’s ingenuity in programming King Wu to seize control of the Earth Kingdom for him. Opal utters Kuvira’s envy. Kuvira argues the meaning behind her words. Su orders them to stop it. Toph thinks she lost the poll as soon as she left Gaoling. Bataar Jr. refuses to accept that as the truth. He states once they reverse the brainwiping effects on the Gaoling civilians, everyone will turn against Commander Guan. As a result, Toph will have a chance to become the governor of Gaoling. Toph’s lack of enthusiasm is always hilarious. Bataar Jr. and Kuvira get started by recreating the machine while Korra fills Asami in on what they are doing. Asami is harsh when Korra touches her hand, but Korra knows that is not Asami’s true self. Su summons Asami for the tests to bring her memory back. Kuvira praises Bataar Jr. for his handiwork; in return, Bataar Jr. compliments Kuvira on her photographic memory. Baatar Jr. reveals he doesn’t know what brainwaves altered Asami’s mind, so they try different combinations to restore Asami’s brain. It takes all day. Kuvira repeats, “You will no longer obey Commander Guan’s orders. The Avatar is no longer your enemy. Your mind is yours again” (p. 19). Asami insists she serves Commander Guan. As metalbender guards escort Asami to her room, Korra, Bataar Jr., and Kuvira wrap their brains about why it didn’t work. Kuvira suggests they experiment on someone who hasn’t been indoctrinated. Korra immediately volunteers, but Bataar Jr. declines because he doesn’t wish to cause any permanent damage or memory loss to the Avatar. Kuvira replaces Korra on the chair. Even though Su tells her she doesn’t have to do this, Kuvira insists she does because Commander Guan and the Earth Empire are her fault. Korra and Bataar Jr. are stunned by Kuvira’s words. Bataar Jr. comments that Kuvira may have changed. Kuvira slips on the headset; sh
