A fun and relatable young adult book--wish it was around when I was a young adult
Published by AERC , 1 year ago
The main character is a 6-feet tall young woman who stays emotionally distant from everyone except her "normal"-size best girlfriend. That includes both her parents, especially her extremely dysfunctional mom. Without giving too much away, she makes a bet with two of her fairly miserable co-workers, and that starts a chain of events with a series of her classmates. She befriends some, gets betrayed by others, and meets a "Prince Charming" character who doesn't "save" her, but encourages her to accept and trust herself. Between him and her bff, she finally gets there, and feels happy, hopeful, and secure. There are other characters who also take the big leap of becoming true to themselves. The plot keeps twisting, the characters are all well-formed and believable, and the writing is very good. This book does a great job of taking the reader through the alienation she experiences as an extremely tall young woman, and how she overcomes it, which is something that 90% of people are completely unaware of. I wish a book like this had been available when I was a young adult.
