I remember reading this book when I was about 12. Not only did it encourage me to read (no small feat since I was a remedial reading class at the time) but it sparked my interest in mysteries (a love I have to this day). Since I have not read the book since I was twelve I won't venture an opinion on the quality of writing. I will say that I liked it when I read it as a child (so much so that I have fond memories of it til this day)and that is who the book is meant for- not adults reading it to see if a child would like it.
