Anybody Catholic or non-Catholic, traditionalist or secular-minded, who wishes to pinpoint honestly and direct cause of the shambles to which the once vibrant Roman Catholic Church has been reduced,... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I am absolutely stunned by this incrediable book! It is the best book on the subject I have ever read. Mr. Demer is right on target with his assessment of what has happened in ordinary parish life since Vatican 2. He describes in beautiful, simple detail exactly what is happening in the U.S. even though he is writing about the Church in Canada. What he writes about is not a longing for the "good old days" but a return to sanity and to the ageless, timeless, solid, sure teachings of the Catholic Church that made it the birthplace of untold hundreds of thousands of saints (both on and off the Church calendar). He describes the "dumbing down" of Church teaching and practice in sharp, biting words but never just for effect. His incite and knowledge of Vatican 2 and its aftermath are refreshingly clear, honest, and surprisingly lacking in bitterness. The way he describes the various parish "types" makes me think he was at the parishes I have been forced to worship at for the thirty years I have been a convert to Catholicism. I heartily recommend this book even if you disagree with his thesis. It is a "must read" for anyone interested in the Catholic Church today.
