Litwin & Silverman have done it again! While "The Block" was terrific, I'm putting my money on this one. If you want to travel down the road less travelled, this is the book for you. Set aside some time to learn about the 'gambling trade', and meet the likes of 'Tongue and Baker'. So that's how they cover their bets-I'd hate to meet those guys in an alley, even in the daytime!
A Solid Mystery

I thoroughly enjoyed reading the Last Bookmaker and felt it was a solid mystery that kept me involved until the very end. The cast of characters was an interesting mix of believable degenerates! who walked the streets of Baltimore and probably any other major city in the latter part of the 20th Century. The partner and mentor of Mr. D, Paul, was my favorite.

A rare comination of fact coupled with fiction. Finally an accurate book in relating the inner workings of the criminal justice system from the viewpoints of the Judges, defendant, prosecutor and the cops. Combined with great characters and a great suspense thriller, it's tough to beat. Very enjoyable.
Fascinating Look at the Inside World of Gambling

The writers really know their stuff when it coming to "getting down" on a bet. They detail the ins and outs of being the biggest "lay-off man" on the East Coast. And it is so realistic, one wonders just how close to the truth this novel might really be. Recommended
