This was my first book written by this author, and I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed Ms. Lester's way of telling a story, it had a lot of detailed description of characters' movement and gestures which gave readers a clear idea of story's surrounding environment but without being boring. I also enjoyed its writing, the language, and the wording. I felt I was actually reading a story that was written by a 18th century author(some part was even like a Medieval period), unlike a lot of Regency romance where one could distinctively tell it was written by a 20th century American writer. I also enjoyed Ms. Lester's smooth and sophisticated writing style. owever, I do have few minor bones to pick: I didn't like the heroine very much, for most part of the story, she was too impetuous, although she was honest and non-discriminative, but I think she could have a bit more maturity to deserve Marcus's love, fortunately she did grow up towards the very end. Another bone is that eventhough the wording was very nice, but I think characters in the less-educated level such as Abigail, bartender, and ruffians should sound like what they would talk, these people all talked very civilly, pretty non-convincing. The last bone is, without giving the plot away, the book mentioned Marcus was from America but how could no one questioned his accent, this made one of the flaws in the book. Luckily, I was so engrossed with the story development that I could over-look these. ButI think this should be more like a 4 1/2 star rating.
