How to be a Knitting goddess!

I can sentimentally say that this was my first knitting book-- the book that started it all. Now hundreds of books, magazines, and patterns later I still come back to this book to remake items for myself, and gifts for family and friends. It is a beautiful book where you can further your creative knitting experience. I sincerely hope that Ms. Bergman writes a sequel to this book-- as it deserves one with her creative talent!!

a must for knitters & lovers of stories!

Beautiful knitting goes with beautiful stories. This is from an author who learned to knit when she was in junior high & had never gotten much further because, being a southpaw, she had to transpose everything. In her word, she summed up knitting as "ick."Spun in with the stories of the mothers of the world are technical details, pattern ideas & making your errors count, as it were. The illustrations accompanying each story are magical. This is a lovely, womanly meditative book for anyone starting out in the knitting life as well as a deeply spiritual adventure into the mythology of our feminine world. Fascinating, informative & fun - a must for the knitters in your life.

The Knitting Goddess

I came across this book, in a local book store. I recommend this book for anyone interested in Knitting! I learned the basic stitches many years ago, but never did anything with them. After sending some time recently with my sick Mom (Carol Coldwell) in Modesto Calif., she brought out her knitting, and she began to teach me what she knew. My time there was very limited ( I live in another state), so I returned to the Dallas area in search for more Knitting Know How's. The local knitting store here does teach classes, but they are booked for the next two months. No hope of getting in there for a few courses. Off I went to find "Books". Had I known this Book was out there I could of saved myself alot of money spent on other books that are not so well written. Not only will you learn how to knit and make something wonderful, but you will love the stories. Deborah Bergaman will capture your heart, your mind, and your sprirt through this enchanting book of stories and lessions!Enjoy it, I know that I sure am!Bright Blessings to all!

Everything you need

I loved patterns and the stories in this beautiful book. The illustrations are inspiring. The following review is oddly sour. I can't imagine resenting someone because they hadn't knitted long enough to write a book about it! Bergman gives the needed information and tells heavenly stories--what more could a reader ask?

Great reading, great teaching

This is an exceptionally intelligent book! I was one of the many who knitted a scarf ages ago, was unhappy with the outcome and thought I'd never go back. The Knitting Goddess has convinced me it will be worth my while to give it another try. After learning about the basic stitches and types of yarn, and even better, reading romantic and inspiring stories about goddesses related to the world of knitting, I'm ready to start. And I really enjoyed the website with photographs of the projects.
