Take This Book With You On Your Next Car Trip With the Kids

For those who have returned from travelling within the United States with children, this may be a fun book for planning next year's family trip. School is just about to begin, and the children will be focusing on more serious academics, but, if you want to engage in learning about our 50 States, you may want to use this book for dinnertime conversation, but not by itself. This paperback is jam packed with interesting and wacky facts, weird pictures, and all kinds of interesting trivia. The entries (states) are not listed in alphabetical order or any regional order, for that matter, so it doesn't matter where you start; just take this on with the intention of having fun, learning some serious and not so serious facts. Each page will feature the name of the state, the shape (sometimes, humorously), and a good handful of city names and facts. Here are a few examples: .....the home of the Duncan Yo-Yo factory, ..... the home of Georgia O'Keeffe, a modernistic painter, .....the home of the magician, Harry Houdini, .....the city where the first ice cream sundae was made, .....the city acclaimed to be the home of the Circus World Museum. Did you guess Colorado, Wisconsin, or Alaska? See page 30. Another state.....the location of Cadillac Mountain, where you can be the first persons on American soil to see the dawn of a new day, .....the home of Charlotte the pig and Wilbur the spider from E.B. White's book, Charlotte's Web,.....the city where the first earmuffs were made in 1873. What state did you guess? Alabama, Maine, or Colorado? Now for the last tease: name the state where the following are said to be from: .....the birthplace of the shopping cart and the parking meter, .....the location where farmers were forced to leave because of dust storms, and .....the home of Will Rogers, cowboy and folk person. Which state is the answer? Oregon, Illinois, Oklahoma? Take a look at the book; the answers are on page 46. All in all, this book of facts will certainly put you in the mood for travelling the USA and preparing for it. Grab a copy, and have some fun! It's too bad, there is no image available, because the cover would catch your interest immediately.
