I am not sure how many histories of German U-Boot warfare from WW1 are out there, but this is a 'must have' for anyone interested in the topic or sub warfare in general or WW1 in general. The author, 'though English, treats the subject with objectivity and seems to be almost sympathetic to an enemy arm of forces that most people still look upon as murderers and pirates. Definitely puts the reader in the conning tower. The companion volume: The Underwater War tells the story of the WW1 British sub force. Also a dashed-good read.
