The Best Introduction To Atoms and Molecules

This book gives the very best explanation of atoms and molecules I've ever read. It's a fabulous introduction to the subject, leading a child (or adult) step by step to understanding. Then it goes on to talk about solids and fluids and even extreme states like plasma. Because the student has the basics by that chapter, they're ready for it. The photos and other illustrations are vivid and add to the overall appeal of the book. I happened upon this book at my local library while preparing to teach a class for our homeschool group, but I'm putting it on my wish list because we'd love to have it in our home. What a gem!

States of Matter

The strength of this book ,in my opinion, is its fine detail and numerous examples explaining the differences and simularities of the states of matter. Most of us only hear about and are familiar with the obvious 'three states of matter'which are solid, liquid, and gas,but this book also gives a good explanation of two other states of matter:Bose-Einstein condensates, and Plasma. Bose-Einstein condensates are created and exist only at very cold temperatures of at or below three-billionths of a degree above absolute zero.Plasma is a type of matter that exists at very hot temperatures such as in the sun.The book has numerous colored illustrations that adequately support its text and is written for children in the upper elementary and middle-school grades. It is definitely worth reading for those children and adolescents who have a genuine interest in chemisty and/or general science.
