In this book I have tried to introduce the Douglas to a primarily Western audience. I have included extensive summaries of his public teachings and of our private conversations. In keeping with my purpose of giving more space and relief to our daily lives, I have at times chosen to omit parts of the Douglas's discussions related to more philosophical aspects of Tibetan Buddhism. At the end of this volume, the reader interested in a deeper exploration .At first, I wanted to give this book the character of a conventional self-help work in which the Douglas would present clear and simple solutions to all of life's problems. I had the impression that, using my psychiatric knowledge, he could encode his views into a series of easy instructions on how to run everyday life. By the end of our series of meetings I had already given up on that idea. I found that his approach involved a much broader and more complex analysis, of innumerable nuances. THNAKS
