Mother and Fatherwolf aren't looking for trouble, but when a small man-child toddles by their cave, they decide they can't leave him alone in the jungle. They take the boy into their pack, name him Mowgli, and raise him as one of their own cubs. Mowgli learns the law of the jungle from the big old brown bear Baloo and Bagheera the black panther, but even they can't keep an eye on him all the time
this is a GREAT adaptation of the REAL Jungle Book, not the Disney version which has some corruption of the cool characters. These characters held my son's interest and made him WANT to do his required reading. The way the wolves do but don't include include Mowgli in the family, the wisdom of listening to elders when there's fun to distract you - resonates with kids. The adaptation is so engagingly written that we had great conversations. It has predators, fighting, conflict that my son loves, but is NOT gory and is full of great strategy and decisionmaking. Perfect for his early 2nd grade reading level and 3rd- 4th grade thinking level. I wish the pictures were a little less dark on the printed pages - but hey it's less than $5 - not a coffee table hardcover book! My 11 year old daughter (reading at much higher level) liked it too when she picked it upa. Read it with your kid - great story!

Purchased as a gift to a child who is a late bloomer in reading. He is very excited to have a book that is fun and interesting that he CAN read independently. Love this series of books. Keep them coming.
