Secrets of Successful Prayer Do you sometimes wonder-- Will I ever receive an answer to my prayers? Do I dare ask God for what I really want? Is this just an exercise in futility? Does God even hear... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Although Dwight L. Moody lived in the 1800's, his book is as relevant today as when he wrote it. The language and terms have been updated for easier reading in this edition, but the content remains as powerful as ever. The Joy of Answered Prayer discusses some of the prayers of mighty men in the Bible. Elijah, Job, Daniel, Samson, Peter, and Silas were not perfect, but when they prayed God heard and answered. Since Christ is our example in everything Moody also looks at some of his prayers and what we can learn from them. The rest of the book uses stories and scripture to clarify areas that can hinder prayers. Moody stresses the importance of confession and reminds the reader that the men who lived nearest to God and had the most power with him were those who confessed their sins and failures. Other chapters deal with the necessity of restitution, forgiveness, and maintaining unity, which builds individuals, churches, and the larger body of Christ. God always delights to hear our prayers. Sometimes God answers immediately, sometimes later, but when you pray, expect an answer. Then no matter when he answers, be willing to accept God's answer. I enjoyed the straightforward presentation. This is a book well worth reading.
