AN ABSOLUTE JEWEL OF A BOOK

I loved this book. I loved that it contained all a good book should...some historical background, excitement, intensity, and romance. Callie Wade is leaving her hometown, Independence, to go out west with her Pa, her brother Jack, and her little sister Rose. Rose is a little girl of a sickly constitution and the journey is mostly made to see if California will help cure her, as she is failing where she is and hope could be found out west. Callie is soon torn between caring for dear little rose, and the handsome Irishman, Quinn MgGregor. Should she stay with her sister and always care for her, or marry the man she loves? Well anyway, Callie's journey is filled with trial and hardship, but also with triumph and love. This book was amazing. There is a little scene with Quinn that could be left out of the story, but if you just skip over it this book was PERFECT. I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! well, read and enjoy!!!

Wonderful!

I initially chose to read this book because of the pretty cover. I also love historical journal/diary form books. This seemed like a perfect pick for me. Boy, am I glad I chose it! This has become my favorite book of all time. I make a point to read it every two years. If I read it any sooner, I will remember everything and it won't be as exciting.Callie Wade is angry at her father for dragging her away from the house she loves, her best friend, and the life that she has known forever. Using a diary her mother gave her before she died, Callie records the perilous, and sometimes wonderful events of her wagon train ride west. She records illnesses on the train, including her young sister, Rose's. She also records her blossoming love for a mysterious blacksmith named Quinn. She must learn to deal with the dangers of wagon life, from dealing with death to dealing with a devilish preacher's son. Throughout it all, Callie's endurance and her love for Quinn and Rose is constant. This is a marvelous book. Warning to readers: Do not listen to reviewers beforehand who claim that this book is not very good because it is not accurate. If some minute detail isn't correct, the outstanding characters and the plot itself makes up for it. This is a charming book that will endear itself to your heart forever!

Real! A true insight of the 1800's from a womans P.O.V

I have read and reread this book, and highly recomend it to all women, and young ladies, it gives a beutiful insight of what real love, and sacrafice mean. I looking forward to the next book, and i wonder what happens to her brother.

A touchy novel

I very much enjoyed this novel, and easy to read in its journal form. ONce you pick it up, you won't be able to put it down

Wonderful, emotional and heartfelt story.

The Journal of Callie Wade is a wonderful story. It is written in a journal format, and feels as if one has discovered a long-lost diary which has been hidden away in an attic trunk. Callie is a terrific character - sometimes introspective and thoughtful; sometimes feisty. The secondary characters are equally intriquing. This book made me laugh aloud. It also made me shed many tears. Callie's heartaches and family tragedies are written with so much emotion, that I felt as if I were right alongside her during the events. The Journal of Callie Wade is a truly wonderful reading experience.
