Americans save the day for a blundered British invasion!

September 8, 1814... the British frigate Nymph, hidden in thick nighttime fog, commandeers a dory. This is the WAr of 1812. One old fishermen and his twelve year old apprentice, Lemuel, are taken aboard and told to lead the way safely over the shoals into the cove of the fishing village of Sandy Bay. Based on a true story (supplemented by copious author notes and a 31 item bibliography), this is the wonderful account of a blundered invasion, and the American townspeople who saved and befriended their invaders--twice! Anita Sanchez writes simply and engagingly with striking, beautiful imagery, and entices the reader into the story. Unique characters are immediately perceived in the mind's eye. The frightening start of the story dissolves into a very laughable situation; the endeavors of these Brits and Yanks thrown together in an awkward state of affairs leaves the reader with renewed faith in the goodness of humanity. In 135 pages, this is a perfect piece of historical fiction for reluctant readers.
