Perfect for transitioning medical students

This book proved to be an excellent book for transitioning from the realm of academic medicine (2nd yr med) to clinical thinking (3rd year med). The emphasis is on common diseases and simplified approaches, and thus serves as one of the few truly "readable" texts that simultaneously give a perspective of how to think from a case-based scenario. The format of the book in background/case/questions is perfect for emphasizing key points, and studying the cases strongly reinforces your understanding of disease by presenting you with a good "archetypal" model to work from. When used in conjunction with more detailed books for further study, one can gain a strong general grounding in common problems encountered in internal medicine. I would have awarded this book 5 stars if it included pictures (none at all). While this book is likely too simplistic for actual practicing residents/physicians, it is perfect for the transitioning medical student seeking a solid grounding to work from.
A great study guide

This book covers the major subdivisions of internal medicine by providing approximately 10 cases per subject. First, it presents the case, then there are several questions afterward that get you to start sorting through the facts of the case in your head. The next section will go over each of those previous questions with great explanations and discussions. This book has the best discussions of any case-based text I've come across for internal medicine. Most other books only leave you asking yourself even more questions because they don't provide an adequate review. My only complaint about this book is that there isn't more of it.
Practical Internal Medicine

This is an excellent internal medicine book because here are the practical part of the internal medicine. The Harrison is a good first plate and the Internal Medicine Bookcase can be the perfect dessert for it.
Excellent overview of internal medicine.

I found this book very useful to me as a medical student, emphasizing the information most pertinent to patient care without getting bogged down in trivia.
